Atención pediátrica por lesiones cerebrales
Children's Health℠ is the first and only healthcare system in Texas offering an Acquired Brain Injury Clinic. Children who suffer from a moderate to severe brain injury often need specialized care to help them recover and transition to their new normal. Our clinic gives families access to multiple, comprehensive services in one convenient location. We offer care from some of the nation’s top experts in neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain management, physical therapy and neuropsychology. In addition, we provide nutrition education, social work support, and school services. Our goal is to help each and every child recover from their injury and go on to live a healthy, fulfilling life.
Speeding up recovery
Our specialized approach to assessing your child allows us to catch more details about your child’s specific injury. That means we can better identify the best care plan for them, as an individual. This helps ensure a speedy, effective recovery.
Every child diagnosed with a concussion undergoes a standard test to determine whether they are concussed and how severely. In addition to this standard assessment, Children’s Health also evaluates your child’s memory, balance, cognition, eye movement which enables us to identify needs – like speech therapy – that might be missed by just the standard concussion assessment.
Most of the children we treat for concussions return to the same activities they enjoyed before their injury. The quicker your child can see us, the quicker they can get the specialized care they need to get back to their routines.
Treating all concussion types
We treat all concussions, whether they are caused by sports or other physical trauma, like a car accident. We also help children who have had multiple concussions recover. Whatever your child’s concussion history, we’re here to help get them back to their daily activities.
We also ensure that our team members work together and remain consistent on testing, assessment and treatment between sites. For example, if your child begins concussion therapy in an inpatient setting, their personalized treatment program will continue as they transition to outpatient care.
Individualized, expert, age-appropriate care
We see children of all ages, from toddlers through 18-year-olds. We individualize your child’s treatment based on the activities they want to get back to. We can get athletes back to peak performance, and we can get your child back to succeeding in the classroom the way they were before their injury. We are also well-versed in making your child’s care age-appropriate, and helping them hit key milestones for their developmental stage.
