Early Childhood Mental and Behavioral Health Clinic

Early Childhood Mental and Behavioral Health Clinic

Our unique clinic helps young children from age 0-5 with behavior problems find new ways to grow and succeed.

Families from across North Texas come to our clinic for answers about their child’s behavior. We are a team of providers from a variety of specialties who focus on early childhood development. We work together, and with you, to learn about your child and understand the issues they are facing. We then conduct a thorough evaluation to create a roadmap charting your family's course to the services and resources that will help your child find more success at home, play and school. The more involved you are in your child’s care, the more likely they are to do well

Thanks to our affiliation with UT Southwestern, our program is proud to help train the next generation of providers in psychiatry, psychology, pediatrics, neurology, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. As a teaching hospital, we bring together medical education, research, and patient care to improve the practice of healthcare and offer the most advanced care available.

Comprehensive, Multidisciplinary Behavioral and Emotional Evaluations

Our team of psychiatrists, psychologists, speech therapists and occupational therapists evaluate all of your child’s skills and abilities. Our team approach helps your child receive an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.

We will carefully observe your child’s speech, movement and behaviors. We strive to get to know more about their internal world by watching how they draw, build, interact with dolls, and complete other play-based tasks.

Based on their evaluation, our team develops a treatment plan to address their specific needs. We will refer your child to services within Children’s Health or in your community, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and/or behavior therapy to carry out their treatment plan. This well-rounded approach to your child’s behavioral health supports continued growth and improvement.

Streamlined, Convenient Care

You’ll have two appointments with our team. During the first two-hour appointment, we’ll meet with you virtually. Your child won’t attend this first meeting. We’ll thoroughly discuss your child, their behaviors and your concerns. You can tell us what you hope to learn about your child from their evaluation.

During the second appointment, we’ll spend the morning with you and your child, watching them play and interact with you. This long appointment ensures we can get to know your child. Around 12:30 p. m., you can take your child to daycare or to another caretaker. We’ll then meet with you at our office, without your child, in the afternoon to provide our feedback and suggestions for treatment, and answer any questions you have.

Positive, Comforting Environment

Our clinic is designed to help you and your child feel comfortable. We hope your child will feel at ease and not like they are at a doctor’s appointment. We provide toys, activities and a welcoming atmosphere to help your child be themself. When your child is comfortable, we can better evaluate their strengths and areas for growth.
