Biography

Catherine Karni, M.D. is a pediatric psychiatrist and Medical Director of outpatient psychiatric and psychological services at Children's Health℠. She is also a Professor of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

She obtained her medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and completed her training in psychiatry at New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center in New York. Dr. Karni then completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital, also in New York.

Her clinical and research interests focus on early childhood mental health conditions, including autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, trauma and related emotional and behavioral problems like anxiety, depression, ADHD and learning disorders. She is also interested in mood disorders in children an adolescents.

Dr. Karni has presented on the topics of autism and early childhood mental health regionally, nationally and internationally on several occasions. Dr. Karni is certified in the specialties of psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is the immediate past president of the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

She is the recipient of the Janssen Clinical Scholar Award.
