Fascinated with Jedi Knights, Phillip started gymnastic at 6 years old. Today, he is winning national competitions and competing with the best of the best. From tumbling to the pommel horse, this 15-year-old orthopedic surgery patient dreams of being a gold medalist in the Summer Games. Discover what routine he thinks will win the judges’ hearts.

Getting back on the horse after surgery
As an Orthopedic Surgeon at the Children’s Health℠ Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Dustin Loveland, M.D., strives to return all his patients back to optimal health so they can pursue their dreams. And that’s just what he did for Phillip. As a matter of fact, Dr. Loveland wouldn’t be surprised if he saw Phillip take gold in pommel horse in the next Summer Games.

Creating a plan to get Phillip back to the mat
In September of 2015, Phillip landed awkwardly on his ankle during gymnastics training, breaking it. He had to have surgery at Children’s Health Plano Campus. After two pins, two surgeries and three months of rehabilitation, he was back to doing what he loves.
Favorite Activity
Balancing gymnastics and acting
Gymnastics is Phillip’s first love, but in his spare time he likes to act. In fact, he starred in How the Grinch Stole Christmas at his high school last year. He also wants to attend the University of Oklahoma to keep up with gymnastics and get his foot in the acting community. Want to help other artistic patients?
