Biography

Matthew Borgman, M.D., is a critical care specialist at Children’s Health℠ and a professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric trauma, transfusion, and coagulation and strives to bring the best possible care to the most critically ill or injured children at our hospital. He currently directs educational activities within the Division of Critical Care.  

Dr. Borgman earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He then completed his residency in pediatrics at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education and fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital.  

Dr. Borgman is an internationally recognized leader in trauma and critical care medicine. His research includes the most cited article on combat casualty resuscitation, which helped establish best practices for the transfusion of red cells and plasma in trauma. He is also a dedicated mentor and teacher, helping shape the next generation of leaders in pediatric critical care. Additionally, he is a simulation educator, develops critical care curriculum and oversees research related to pediatric critical care outcomes. 

Dr. Borgman is a retired colonel and served in the U.S. Army for over 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoys running, biking, cooking, and spending time with his spouse and four children.
