A Randomized Controlled Trial Assessing Video Enhanced Handoff Between the Emergency Department and Inpatient Units to Reduce Length of Stay for Patients with Bronchiolitis Admitted on Heated High Flow Nasal Cannula
Study ID: STU-2020-0544
Summary
We will be randomizing patients diagnosed with bronchiolitis on HFnC to receive either standard handoff or video enhanced handoff between the eD and inpatient team and compare the two groups of patients in terms of length of stay in the eD. We will also conduct satisfaction questionnaires of the providers involved in handoff.
our primary objective is to reduce the length of stay in the eD for admitted patients diagnosed with bronchiolitis and on heated high flow nasal cannula (HFnC) by implementing video enhanced handoff during eD to inpatient provider handoff. We believe a video physical exam of the patient's respiratory status will facilitate handoff and decrease eD length of stay.
