Biography
William S. Even, Au.D., is a certified clinical audiologist at Children’s Health℠ who cares for children with hearing and balance disorders.
Audiologists specialize in providing diagnostic, rehabilitative and other services for conditions that affect hearing and balance. They use tests to diagnose and treat these problems using techniques such as hearing aids, balance therapy or hearing rehabilitation. They also work closely with ear, nose and throat physicians (otolaryngologists) to care for the medical causes of hearing problems.
Dr. Even completed a doctorate in audiology at the University of Florida in 2007. He earned a Master of Arts degree in audiology at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Texas State University.
Dr. Even serves as Assistant Director for the Division of Communicative and Vestibular Disorders. To assess hearing and balance disorders, Dr. Even performs a wide variety of audiological, electrophysiological and vestibular testing. Clinical testing for his patients may include otoacoustic emissions to check the function of the inner ear and auditory brainstem response (ABR) to measure nerve reactions to sound. To check balance issues and vestibular nerve function, he performs vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), electronystagmography (ENG), slow harmonic acceleration chair and dynamic platform posturography testing.
Dr. Even also cares for patients who need hearing aids. He programs and fits digital hearing aids, assistive listening devices and bone-anchored, osseointegrated implantable devices.
To help patients cope with tinnitus (a ringing or buzzing noise in the ears), Dr. Even serves on a retraining therapy program. He is proficient with tinnitus treatment devices and counseling.
Dr. Even is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and certified in clinical competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
