Pediatric Male Genital Reconstruction

Male Genitalia Reconstruction and Hypospadias Center

The urologists at Children's Health℠ specialize in hypospadias repairs and pediatric male genital reconstruction

If your son is born with an abnormality of the scrotum or penis, your concern is likely twofold: Will my child have full urinary and sexual function, and will my child’s body look “normal”?

Surgical reconstruction and early intervention can help re-establish function and restore appearance while providing peace of mind for you and confidence for your son later in life.

The UT Southwestern pediatric urologists practicing at Children’s Health℠ specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of genitourinary tract disorders, including male genital reconstruction and hypospadias repair. Our experience includes reconstruction of the most complex urinary and genital anomalies in children from birth to young adulthood.

Comprehensive care for male genital reconstruction

Male genitalia are the internal and external reproductive organs, including the penis and testes. The tubes, ducts and glands, as well as the external organs, develop long before a child is born when a complex cascade of hormonal signals and events occurs. If this process is disrupted at any point or if the correct amounts of hormones are not present, anomalies can occur.

A common example is hypospadias, which happens when the urethra doesn’t form a tube all the way to the tip of the penis. This results in a urinary opening that is located on the underside of the penis, which can be accompanied by penile curvature. Our experienced team of pediatric urologists has extensive background and specialized training in identifying and treating a wide range of male genital conditions, from hypospadias and undescended testicles to inguinal hernias and scrotal hydroceles.

Providing treatment options that hasten healing and preserve fertility

Our goal is to answer your questions and provide support that helps you understand your child’s treatment options. Treatment does not always involve surgery, but when it does, our program at Children’s Health is led by a team of pediatric urologists who are experienced in providing meticulous care.
