The Comprehensive Stone Center at Children’s Health℠ is North Texas’ only program of its kind

Children should not make kidney stones. Here at Children’s Health℠, we see about 300 new pediatric patients each year with their first kidney stone.  Children with stones need careful, personalized testing and treatment designed specifically for their medical problem that is causing them to make stones.

Research study participant opportunity

Prevention of Urinary Stones with Hydration (PUSH)

Why do children have kidney stones? Will smart water bottles reduce kidney stones in children and adults?

Children’s Health is participating in a national clinical trial investigating the impact of hydration on children and adults with a history of kidney stones. The two-year study is underway and enrollment is now open to participants 12 years and older who have access to a smart phone and a history of kidney stones.

Our Pediatric Comprehensive Stone Center is a full-service, multidisciplinary effort between urology, nephrology, nursing, dietary, radiology and the Children’s Health laboratory. With UT Southwestern providers and services located in one convenient location, your child can receive coordinated and personalized care.

Minimally invasive and mom-approved with the area’s only dedicated shock wave machine

Our goal is to manage your child’s kidney stones using nonsurgical treatments when possible. But some stones are large, hurt and get stuck, so surgery may be necessary. Fortunately, we offer many minimally invasive surgical options that result in less pain and a faster recovery.

Studies show that about half of patients who have one kidney stone will have another within three years. We are by your side to anticipate and lessen the risk of kidney stone recurrence.
