How long will my AYA appointment take?
AYA appointments can sometimes take several hours depending on the nature of the visit. We try to provide prompt care for all patients. In order to continue the service, we need your help.
- New Patients - Please arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment to fill out our digital questionnaires.
- Late Arrivals - Late arrivals may be asked to reschedule.
- No Shows - After three no-shows, you may be asked to choose another physician.

How should I prepare for my AYA appointment?
To avoid unnecessary testing we ask that you bring any relevant:
- Medical records
- Test results
- Imaging results
If these test were preformed at Children's Health℠, you will not need to bring these with you.
For appointments related to weight management:
- The patient may not eat or drink anything 8 hours before the appointment. This makes sure that the blood tests give correct information on blood sugar (glucose), cholesterol, triglycerides and more.

What should I bring to my AYA appointment?
- All of your medicines (prescription and over-the-counter)
- Any questions you have for your provider
- Any forms that need to be filled out
- Your insurance card and parent picture ID
Additional tests may be ordered. If you are unsure where your preferred lab is, check with your insurance provider.

How do I contact the AYA department?
- One of our nurses can be reached at our main clinic number 214-456-9099.
- If you reach the voicemail, please leave a message.
- Calls will be returned by the next business day. We will return more urgent calls as soon as possible.
- Some minor problems may be handled over the phone. If an appointment is needed, every effort will be made to see you in a timely manner. For certain needs, you may be asked to contact your primary care physician.
- Other urgent issues may be referred to the Emergency Department/ER at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

How do I reach my AYA physician after hours?
If there is an urgent medical problem during the weekend or after 4:30 p. m. on weekdays, please call our main clinic number, 214-456-9099 to be connected with the AYA physician on-call.

How do I get my AYA medication refilled?
If you have a medication need, contact us through MyChart or at 214-456-9099. For refill requests, please contact us at least seven (7) days before you run out of medication.
You can also request refills by calling your pharmacy directly.
