Biography

Jacob Sexton, MD, ATC is a non-operative sports medicine physician at Children’s Health Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. He specializes in the non-operative management of sports-related injuries from pediatric to adult patients. As a team physician, Dr. Sexton has previous experience treating athletes from the high school, collegiate, and professional levels.

A native of southern Alabama, Dr. Sexton started his sports medicine career completing his degree in athletic training from Troy University. As an athletic trainer, Dr. Sexton gained valuable experience managing sports-related injuries with athletes at the high school and division 1 collegiate levels.

Dr. Sexton completed his medical degree at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He subsequently completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Prisma Health System, a subsidiary of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Sexton completed his fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida under the tutelage of Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Joshua Hackel.

Dr. Sexton primary interests include the utilization of ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of sports related injuries. Dr. Sexton also utilizes Orthobiologic therapies, such as platelet-rich-plasma, as an alternative treatment for sports related injuries. As a previous baseball player, Dr. Sexton takes particular interest in the management of overhead throwing athletes and strategies to limit overuse injuries in this population. 

Dr. Sexton enjoys spending time with his wife Kelly, working in his koi pond, gardening, golfing, and biking.
