Biography

Amanda Evans, M.D., is a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Children’s Health℠  and Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She treats children with a wide variety of infectious diseases, including congenital syphilis, congenital CMV, tuberculosis, and recurrent streptococcal infections.

She is the medical director of Children’s Health infectious diseases-related outpatient services, including the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinic, Congenital Infectious Diseases Clinic and ARMS (primary care for HIV/AIDS).  

Dr. Evans earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Georgetown University and then a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at UT Southwestern/Children’s Health. 

Her research includes congenital syphilis, HIV infection in adolescents and intrauterine transmission of COVID-19. She was a member of a COVID-19 public health and education advisory board for Dallas County, and is currently leading clinical trials of medicines to treat infections babies are born with. Dr. Evans also serves as the faculty director of the medical student and resident pediatric infectious diseases elective at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Evans is passionate about providing care to children with health disparities and barriers to healthcare. She is a member of the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Committee at UT Southwestern, a core team member of the Dallas Fetal Infant Morbidity and Mortality Reviews for Congenital Syphilis, and a member of the Dallas County Ryan White Planning Council, which aims to optimize healthcare for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Evans is a native Texan and grew up in the DFW area. In her spare time, she spends time with her three children and family in the area. She also enjoys attending local high school and UT Longhorn football games.
