1. School submits MSAA Request (via Microsoft Form)
    School completes the MSAA Request Form to initiate the partnership(s).
    Provides campus address, program types, accreditation status, and contract contact.

2. Children's Health Reviews Request
    Academic Affiliations verifies accreditation, program alignment, and capacity.
    If approved, Legal begins drafting the MSAA.

3. Contract Drafting & Execution
    Draft sent to school and/or UTSW for legal review and signatures.
    Negotiation and routing occur on all sides.
    Full execution can take -
        Bi-party: 3-6 months
        Tri-party: up to 18 months

4. MSAA Fully Executed
    Once signed by all parties, CHildren's Health logs the agreement.
    Contract terms (campus, programs, expiration) are confirmed in mCE

Attestation

• Use official school letterhead using the mCE template.

• Include school’s coordinator signature physical or electronic accepted-

  please note that typed signatures will not be considered valid.

• List dates for drug and background test.

• This must have a physical signature, not a digital one.

5. Occupational Health Clearance- If a student does not receive a response within 72 business hours after document submission, student is responsible to follow up directly with OH.

6. CART & SSPV online training instructions email-To prevent access issues, students should wait the full 24 hours before trying to log in.

Review the Student Health Form in its entirety and carefully.

Each student must complete and upload the following in the Compliance tab:

• Student Health Form

• TB Evaluation Form

• Flu Vaccine

Vaccine Documentation

Once an Occupational Health nurse reviews the student’s documentation, missing or unacceptable documentation information will be placed in the Notes section in mCE as well as an email to the student. OHstudents@childrens.com

It is the student's responsibility to follow up in a timely manner to turn in the correct documentation to start their rotation on time.

1. Students will be cleared to receive badges when all required information has been received and verified by Student Services. This applies to both CMC-employed and non- employed students.
    A. Students must pick up the student badge prior to starting the clinical rotation.
         i. If a student is also an employee of Children’s, they must wear a student badge when they are here for clinical rotations. They may not wear their employee badges when they are here as a student.
    B. Please bring the clearance email and government-issued photo ID to the Badge Office.
    C. Identification badges may be obtained at: Children’s Medical Center of Dallas for Dallas based clinical rotations or Children’s Medical Center Plano for Plano based clinical rotations.

If the student needs to extend dates during their rotation:
1. Notify
    APP Preceptor Connect

    PRIOR to the students scheduled end date to avoid disruption of their hospital access

2. To extend rotation the following is required:
    A. A new attestation letter from school with new dates
    B. A new signed waiver
    C. Your health form must be re-verified through occupational health

Dallas Badge Office

  • Dallas Campus Badge Office Hours:

• 7:30 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

• 7:30 a.m. to noon, 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday

• The Badge office is closed from 12-1 daily for lunch and closed on Sat & Sun

Plano Badge Office

• The Badge Office is in the Security Office within the Central Plant Building, R1808. (This building is located next to the main campus parking garage).

• Call 469-303-1370 for an appointment.

• Plano Campus Badge Office Hours:

  • 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday and Friday

  • 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

  • The Badge Office is closed from 12-1 daily for lunch and closed on Sat & Sun

End of Rotation

Students must return badge to the Badge Office at the end of your rotation.

Provide care to, or document on, patients that are undergoing procedural sedation (moderate sedation for a specific procedure that requires specific monitoring & documentation). Student may assist preceptor with care of sedated patients.

• Delegate to unlicensed assistive personnel (MA’s, techs, etc.)

• Start IVs

• Prescribe/order medications, therapeutics or referrals.

• Administer chemotherapeutic drugs

• Transcribe orders

• Count narcotics

• Initiate administration of blood or blood products

• Monitor patients receiving blood or blood products

• Witness informed consents

• Beassignedtoanypatientsinairborneisolationastheyarenotfittedforrespiratormasks (or get fitted)

• Take verbal orders

• Access Central Line Venous Catheters (CVCs) or change CVC dressing (including PICC lines) independently- needs direct supervision by preceptor.

Procedures not included on this list (e.g. suctioning, tracheostomy care, urinary catheter insertion) may be performed by students only with the assistance of their preceptor.

Since you may only have a few weeks or several months of preceptorship, you have to make the most of it.

To make the most from your nursing preceptorship, you want to:

• Arrive to work on time

• Always be prepared

• Communicate effectively with your preceptor

• Create measurable goals

• Ask for feedback

• Write things down you don’t understand, and then look it up when you have the time

• Listen

• Ask for help

• Take breaks

• Ask questions

• Acknowledge when you’re wrong

• Debrief with your preceptor after each shift

• Personally reflect on what you have learned

Before starting your orientation with your preceptor, it is important to establish goals between you and your preceptor. Make sure you are on the same page. You can ask questions like:

• How do you like to communicate?

• How has your experience been with other new nurses?

• How do you like to complete your work?

• How do you prefer to teach?

• What are your teaching strategies and teaching styles?

• At what point should we sit down and discuss my progress?

• Is there anything I should know to make sure my orientation is successful?

• Is there anything you wouldn’t like me to do?

• How can we ensure our partnership is going to be successful?
