Biography

Ruchika Sharma, M.D., is board-certified in pediatrics, pediatric hematology oncology and hemostasis-thrombosis. She works with children and families at Children’s Health℠. Dr. Sharma, who is also an Associate Professor of pediatrics in the department of pediatric hematology oncology and bone marrow transplantation at UT Southwestern Medical Center, says she is passionate about treating children experiencing coagulation disorders (bleeding and clotting problems) and other blood disorders. She has a particular clinical interest in hemostasis-thrombosis (bleeding and clotting disorders in children), women’s hematology and immune platelet disorders.

As a hematologist, I enjoy having a relationship with my patients and their families.
Dr. Ruchika Sharma

Dr. Sharma earned her medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, India. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Toledo, Toledo Children’s Hospital in Ohio. She also completed two fellowships, which include Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT and Pediatric Hemostasis-Thrombosis, both from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Ohio State University.

Dr. Sharma’s commitment to evidence-based, compassionate care informs all facets of her work. “As a hematologist, I enjoy having a relationship with my patients and their families.” She is passionate about providing excellent care to her patients and families and “working towards advancing the care for bleeding disorders in children.”

Dr. Sharma is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners. She is involved in committee service and was nominated and elected as the co-chair of the Platelet Immunology Scientific and Standardization Committee within the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Dr. Sharma is a member of the Foundation for Women and Girls with Blood Disorders and the Pediatric ITP Consortium of North America (a collaborative research effort that includes investigators from centers across the U.S. and Canada).

She is a recipient of several research grants and a co-investigator for the Assessment of Fibrinolytic Disorders in Adolescent Females with Unexplained Bleeding. She was also the principal investigator for research uncovering Coagulation Disorders in Menstruating Adolescents. She has several original peer-reviewed publications, including Utilization and Optimization of an Electronic Self-Administered Bleeding Assessment Tool and a peer-reviewed article on the Impact of erythrocytapheresis on natural anticoagulant levels in children with sickle cell disease.

Dr. Sharma is also a requested international, national and regional lecturer and has presented on the topics of Recent Advances in the Antenatal Diagnosis of Fetal and Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia as well as the Diagnosis and Management of Congenital Platelet Disorders.

In her free time, Dr. Sharma enjoys spending quality time with her family. She likes to travel and enjoys listening to music.
