Biography

Richard Nail, M.D., is a Pediatrician at Children’s Health℠ and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He has a special interest in infectious diseases, dermatology and developmental/behavioral pediatrics.

“I am an expert at helping get new parents off the ground with their new children. I had 2 of my 3 kids prior to medical school and remember the angst and apprehension of being a new parent,” he says. “Now on the other side — after extensive medical training, 21 years of private practice and raising 3 children — I have a unique perspective that I can impart on parents. I make parenting very relatable with a healthy dose of common sense.”

After starting his career in engineering, Dr. Nail returned to school to pursue a dream of becoming a doctor. He completed medical school at UT Southwestern and his residency at Children's Medical Center of Dallas. Today, one of his passions is helping shape the next generation of pediatric health care leaders. He takes pride in mentoring pediatric residents and helping them learn the ins and outs of being a pediatrician.

Dr. Nail has been named a Top Doctor by D Magazine multiple times and has also been named a Teacher of Distinction by UTMB Galveston.

Outside of work, Dr. Nail enjoys spending time with his wife and their three adult children. They welcomed their first grandchild in 2024. A lifelong Texan, Dr. Nail enjoys traveling around the state as well as playing tennis, fishing and house projects.
