Biography
Johanna Whitson, Au.D., is a clinical audiologist with Children’s Health℠ who cares for children of all ages with hearing loss and balance disorders.
Audiologists specialize in providing diagnostic, rehabilitative and other services for conditions that affect hearing and balance. They use tests to diagnose and strategies such as hearing aids, balance therapy or hearing rehabilitation for treatment. They also work closely with ear, nose and throat physicians (otolaryngologists) to care for the medical causes of hearing problems.
Dr. Whitson completed her Doctorate in Audiology at Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2007. She earned two degrees from the University of Washington in Seattle – a Master of Science in audiology in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science in speech and hearing sciences in 1996.
Dr. Whitson now holds a certificate of clinical competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
At Children’s Health, she sees patients in the Pediatric Audiology and Pediatric Ear, Nose and Throat departments.
Dr. Whitson is highly experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss, using a wide range of services such as pediatric acoustic reflex, auditory brainstem response, conditioned play audiometry, otoacoustic emissions and visual reinforcement audiometry.
For patients dealing with balance issues and dizziness, she uses a variety of vestibular testing, including rotary chair, platform posturography, electronystagmography and electrocochleography.
Dr. Whitson performs evaluations and fittings for patients who need any level of hearing aids or implantable bone conduction technology. She also evaluates candidates for cochlear implants, performs activations and provides follow-up care for all device manufacturers.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and a member of the Texas Academy of Audiology.
Dr. Whitson also serves as an audiologist and faculty associate with UT Southwestern.
