Biography
Bethany Brum, Au.D., is a doctor of audiology who provides patient-centered care for children of all ages with hearing problems.
Audiologists specialize in providing diagnostic, rehabilitative and other services for conditions that affect hearing and balance. They use tests to diagnose and treat these problems using techniques such as hearing aids, balance therapy or hearing rehabilitation. They also work closely with ear, nose and throat physicians (otolaryngologists) to care for the medical causes of hearing problems.
Dr. Brum earned her bachelor’s degree and doctor of audiology from University of Texas at Austin. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
At Children’s Health, Dr. Brum is part of a team of audiologists that works to improve the hearing of children. She assesses the hearing status of children using tests and methods such as otoacoustic emissions, tympanometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry and conventional audiometry.
Dr. Brum has participated in a variety of volunteer work during her career. She has taught American Sign Language to deaf refugees and assisted with materials to help them prepare for the American citizenship test. She also volunteered in Honduras as a volunteer audiologist, a counselor at Deaf Summer Camp and a Honduran sign language teacher for community leaders.
Dr. Brum speaks fluent English, is proficient in American Sign Language and has limited proficiency in Spanish.
