Biography
Thomas Spain, M.D., MPH, is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Children’s Health℠ and an Associate Professor of Pediatric Anesthesiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is board-certified in general anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, pain medicine, hospice and palliative care, headache medicine and addiction medicine.
Dr. Spain earned his medical degree from the University of Texas HSC at San Antonio. He completed his residency training at the University of Texas Houston HSC in orthopaedic surgery, his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center and his pain medicine fellowship at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. He focuses most of his time on pediatric pain medicine at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. His special interests include treating patients with migraine headaches, amplified musculoskeletal pain and chronic abdominal pain.
Dr. Spain is the medical director of the pediatric pain management service at Children’s Health. He is a member of the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia, Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Texas Society of Anesthesiologists and the Texas Pain Society.
Dr. Spain’s hobbies include studying Spanish, running, serving in his church, and making medical mission trips to India, Ethiopia, Honduras, Belize, and Haiti.
